CrossFitter of the Month – March 2014

Hey Folks!

This month we recognize someone who has been crushing extreme in the gym since we were in the old location.  This person has been a great example of will and determination as well as being a fantastic role model for her family (and the rest of us!)  She’s got tonnes of spirit, a fun loving attitude and a killer pain face 😉

This months CrossFitter of the month is….

untitled-162

Trista!

Name: Trista Munro

Age: 30

Occupation: Commercial Banker

What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit?

General fitness has always been a part of my life from figure skating when I was little, basketball, badminton in high school to long distance running in my mid 20’s (completed 2 Sudbury Rocks Half marathons). Growing up I always wondered how or where I could learn to do those crazy heavy lifting you see in the summer Olympics – when I heard about CrossFit I just knew this is what I have been looking for.

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?

I walked through the CrossFit doors in January 2013 during my lunch break, where I was greeted by coach Katie. Her smile and enthusiasm (miss you Katie) and the positive energy that filled the gym had me hooked from the very first day.
There are so so many reasons why I choose CrossFit.  It’s just plain awesome!  It’s not only physically challenging, but mentally also. Sometimes you have to go to very dark places to get through a WOD (14.5 comes to mind), but when it’s all over you honestly feel like you can conquer the world – that is a pretty awesome feeling.  I love that I’m not obsessed with the scale anymore. It has taught me that it’s about what my body can do and not what it looks like – that’s just the amazing side effect.  I have never felt stronger and more mentally clear in my entire life. I am a better wife and mother because of CrossFit. It gives me the stamina and energy to raise two kids, and I want to be a role model for them.  I truly believe that CrossFitting (until 7.5 months pregnant) keeping me relatively fit, receiving awesome Chiropractic care from Dr. Adam Ball (Real Life Health 705-222-7213) was the reason why I had incredibly quick, totally manageable, drug free labour and delivery. It also allowed me a fast recovery, getting back to WOD’ing only 5 weeks post partum, and has helped me shed my pregnancy weight in under 5 months.

What is your favourite part about crossfit?

*Insert theme music to Cheers*
Chuck said it best “sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name”

Hands down my absolute favourite part about CF is the people. Being around like minded, enthusiastic people, inspire me to be stronger than I was yesterday. I am so thankful that I have so many new friends at this stage of my life, it’s a home away from home.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)

Being a mom and wife is definitely my most rewarding accomplishment. Some days the WOD is “Jayce” and “Jerzie” for time. GO!, but I am one proud momma of two great kids. They are already regulars at the gym, and I look forward to WOD’ing with them one day.  Having a baby just 5 months ago, I am pretty proud that I’ve already hit some PR’s and went BEAST MODE in the 2014 Open. Pull ups and toes to bar are some goals of mine to have before the 2015 Open!

Favourite workout or lift?

By far my favourite lifts are the Snatch and Overhead Squat. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – lifting a bar full of weight over your head is pretty darn empowering.

Anything else you would like to share please feel free

Thanks Adam for this awesome recognition and thank you for providing us with such an incredible place – I can’t sleep some nights because I am so excited to get there in the morning to see what FUN is in store and to see my friends. Also I want to thank my husband Jesse for the constant encouragement and for being so awesome.

If anyone is on the fence about walking through those doors, I just want to say that once you do, it will be life changing.
