Here are Tara’s answers to our Questions!

Name:  Tara Thall

Age:  38

Occupation:  Early Learning Kindergarten Teacher

What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?

Exercise began for me at 4 years old when I started competitive swimming with Laurentian University Swim Club.  I swam for almost 20 years and ended my time on the pool deck as a coach.  I loved the training, goal setting and sense of accomplishment that swimming brought to my life.   After swimming, I took a break from the pool and spent a number of years doing various things like running, spin classes and weights at the gym.  It was ok, but I was bored.  I missed “training” and “competition”.   I alleviated my boredom by training for a half marathon.  Did that, and then I was bored again!  Then, I found CrossFit!

How long have you been doing CrossFit and why do you choose to CrossFit?

I have been doing CrossFit for exactly one year.  I was ready for a change when I walked into the old CrossFit gym on Regent Street.  I had no idea what it was all about but I knew I needed to try something different.  I signed up for the 6am OnRamp class the next day and have been addicted ever since!  CrossFit gives me everything I feel like I’ve been missing over the last few years.  I LOVE that I LOVE training again, I LOVE that I can be competitive with myself, set goals and achieve them despite the fact that I’m getting older!  I LOVE that I have discovered Paleo and feel so much better.  I LOVE feeling like I’m part of a team again. I LOVE that I feel strong!  I LOVE that I feel confident!

What is your favourite part about CrossFit?

I love everything that CrossFit has to offer but I have two favourites…

First, CrossFit has the best community.  Everyone is so awesome!  Ever since my first workout, I have always felt welcome.  I look forward to seeing familiar and new faces everyday.  Someone is always there to support you, challenge you, make you laugh, and/or count your last 5 burpees!

Second, CrossFit is FUN!  I am never bored!  The workouts are challenging yet different all the time.  I have really enjoyed learning all of the Olympic Lifts and setting new goals for PR’s!

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (CrossFit or non CrossFit related)

I am so proud of my family.  My son Jeremy is the best gift my husband and I could have ever been given.  He is an energetic kid who loves soccer and the outdoors.  We try to model by example the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.  Jeremy certainly has many questions about what goes on at “mommy’s gym”!!

My proudest CrossFit moment was learning Toes to Bar and Double Unders all on the same day during the CrossFit Open.  I always work better under pressure!

Toes To Bar

Favorite workout or lift?

My favourite lift is the Press, I’m stuck at 98# but can’t wait to achieve my goal of over 100#!

Anything  else you would like to share please feel free

Thank you to the entire CrossFit community for making CrossFit Sudbury my favourite place to be at 6am!  Coaching staff – you rock!  Thank you for your dedication in helping all of us reach our full potential as athletes!
