CrossFitter of the Month – April 2013

Hey Folks!

We finally caught up! And what a great way to do it – It was actually kind of nice being behind since we got to hear from so many awesome members in such a short time, but, I’ll be trying my best to be on time going forward (Kristin will ensure I am ;))

It’s always difficult to choose who “wins” this each month and this month was no different. This month we recognize a smiling face who works hard, plays hard and has truly embraced all the best that CrossFit has to offer. “Have you ever tried (insert possibly very difficult movement/skill here)?”, is usually answered with “no/once/not yet”, but not always is it then set as a goal and achieved in record time. This person has been putting in the efforts, making the time to come in and doing the mobility and other homework necessary to continue to set PRs whenever she’s in the gym. Once again, an amazing role model not only to her own family, but for the rest of us here at CrossFit Sudbury.

This months CrossFitter of the Month is Megan!

Here are her answers to our questions 🙂

Name: Megan Bischoff

Age: 35

Occupation: grade 2 teacher

What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit?

I have always been a fairly fit individual. I’ve participated in many team sports such as basketball, volleyball and soccer as well as individual sports such as cross country running, cross country skiing and downhill skiing. In the last few years though, running has become my love. I’ve participated in several half marathons and 10 km races.

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?

I have been doing CrossFit now for 5 months. I choose to CrossFit because it targets all aspects of what I consider a healthy lifestyle and it’s FUN! I love the balance of cardio, strength, flexibility and nutrition. And did I mention it was fun? CrossFit has had a positive impact in all aspects of my life. It is rewarding and exciting, and the varying workouts keep me engaged, satisfied and always wanting more. CrossFit has become an integral part of my daily routine and I cannot see myself ever choosing not to CrossFit!

What is your favorite part about crossfit?

It seems a little ridiculous, but I absolutely love everything about CrossFit. The atmosphere created by the people here is second to none! It is a place where I feel I belong and am welcome, based on who I am here and now! There isn’t a single person who has not introduced him/herself to me. It’s hard to imagine that happening anywhere else. In turn, I feel comfortable doing the same! The warm and welcoming atmosphere is something so important and valued, and is a major factor as to why I was hooked from my very first workout. Which leads me to my next point…the workouts.

The first thing I do each morning is check the website to see what the workout is. It’s exciting! They challenge me in ways I never thought possible and yet, at the end, I still have a smile on my face and am excited about my accomplishments. And as I’m walking out the door, I am usually thinking…I can’t wait to find out what tomorrow’s WOD is going to be! I look forward to CrossFit each and everyday.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)

I am most proud of my family. My twin girls are the apple of my eye. They have brought such pride and joy to my life and I couldn’t imagine a life without them. In CrossFit, I am really proud of my effort. I put my all into every workout I do and I never give up. I try really hard to push through the pain and stay positive in each and every workout. Specifically, I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made, in particular with pull-ups and toes to bar.

Favorite workout or lift?

I LOVE pull-ups and toes to bar. As for a favourite lift, I would have to say back squats.

Anything else you would like to share please feel free

I would like to thank all of the trainers, mentors and the community in general at CrossFit. Your high fives, encouragement and knowledge have changed my life forever!
