CrossFitter of the Month – January Edition

Hey Folks!

Well, I’m once again long overdue in getting this out there – but better late than never.

This month we recognize one of the growing many couples present in our gym.  Although you may not have known (probably you do) because they are almost never able to make it out to the gym together.  They are an inspiration to the younger members of the gym I know for sure (as I’m one of them) – that the excuse of being, “too busy” to make it to the gym is exactly that… an excuse.  They take turns taking care of their awesome 11 month and almost 3 year old while the other does the wod – then reports home with their score.  They’ve been giving their all in the gym and it definitely shows.  January’s CrossFitters of the Month are…

Grandpapa 072

Rebecca & Craig!

Here is their answers to some of our questions:

Age: 31 and 38

Occupation: Stay at home Mom and Nursing Professor

What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit?

Craig: I have swum competitively since the age of 11 including club, varsity, and now masters. I worked out on my own in the gym (weights and cardio) but always found it a bit of a drag and hard to motivate myself to get into a healthy routine.

Rebecca: I played soccer and raced downhill skiing from the time I was 10 until 18. For years I have worked out a gym but found it really hard to find good motivation to make it there every day.

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?

We started Crossfit in late May of 2012.

Craig: I really love the variety and the challenge of each workout. I am always excited to find out what we will be doing each day.

Rebecca: It is really convenient to be able to get such a great workout in about an hour. I really love the support and camaraderie.

What is your favorite part about crossfit?

Rebecca: I like that I have been able to make improvements so quickly. I also like that Craig and I get to have fun competing with each other, each day, it is a great motivator.

Craig: My favourite parts are learning new things almost every time I come in and my daily fun competition with Rebecca. It is really fun to think that each time I work out in the morning that she will try to beat my time or rounds that night.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)

We both are really proud of Ewan and Callum (two little boys are a big motivator to get into better and better shape).

Rebecca: Carrying both the boys at same time up the stairs is a great indicator of how much crossfit has increased my functional fitness.

Craig: I was pretty proud of being able to do a couple handstand push-ups even though I wasn’t going down very far (I couldn’t do a handstand when we started).

Favorite workout or lift?

Rebecca: Back squats.

Craig: Press and anything with rowing in it (not running, I am enjoying the wintery lack of running)

Thanks for bringing such awesome energy and attitudes to the gym & great work guys!
