CrossFitter of the Month – September 2019

Hey Folks!

It’s your favourite time of the month! We get to highlight another beauty member of CFSuds. This person has been consistently showing up without a whole lot of expectations – but doing the work and reaping the rewards (shows what consistent hard work over time will do for someone). September’s CrossFitter of the month is…

Isabelle!

Here are Isabelle’s answers to our questions!

Name: Isabelle

Age: 35

Occupation: Teacher

What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?
I was always active when I was younger and have always been very competitive. I played hockey all through high school and college. I tried lots of sports like water polo, lacrosse, even danced Ballet for a couple years. The only time I had ever been in a gym was while playing hockey and training with my team. I actually hated it, it was really boring.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and why do you choose to CrossFit?
I joined CrossFit 18 months ago. The minute I walked in, I knew CrossFit would be it. I love the intensity. When I am there, I don’t think about anything else. It is a place that is just for me (I am nobody’s mom! I’m just Isabelle).

What is your favorite part about CrossFit?
The people! The laughs! The accomplishments! The High Fives!

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (CrossFit or non CrossFit related)
That’s a tough one! Since joining a lot has changed. There have been many visible goals reached along the way (loading and unloading my kayak alone, crushing the monkey bars at a Spartan Race, breaking into the 100’s on most of my lifts,…) but the one I am most proud of is not visible to all. Being able to manage my anxiety without medication. It was always a goal of mine but I didn’t know if it would be possible; I was okay with the idea of taking them as they helped me be who I was suppose to be. However, I found this awesome place; a place that gave me the balance I needed in my life (work, family, fun) and an opportunity to process all the feelings, the stress and emotions of day to day life. CrossFit was MY missing piece and I am thankful for everything and everyone that it has brought into my life!

Favourite workout or lift?
I really love long workouts where you chip away gradually. The sense of accomplishment when you get those kinds of WODs done is phenomenal! I didn’t think I would like lifting weights but turns out I love it! So I don’t really have a favourite. I do have a love/hate relationship with the snatch though.

Anything else you would like to share please feel free ☺
A quick Shout Out! to my husband! He is not a crossfitter, but without him, neither would I. I get to come here as often as I do because he holds down the fort back at home. He builds me a homemade pull up bar so I can get my first pull up, he maps out 5km routes so I can run at camp… He supports me and I just wanted to say Thank you!
