A little more about the program...
Kids are frequently tossed into intense, sport specific training when they haven't yet developed an adequate foundation in nutrition, flexibility, strength, stability and coordination. Providing a sound base of fitness is monumental in reducing injuries, and improving performance when it comes to sports, physical activities (hiking, skiing, running, jumping, climbing, etc.) and life in general. Training the same sport year round is slowly being outed as a cause of a 400% increase in ACL tears among many other injuries. While sport-specific training is crucial for developing certain skills, it often does a poor job of insulating children from injury or developing their physical capacity. Improving your curve ball, snap timing or wrist shot, is something you'll have to do on your field of play, but before you get there we'll make you stronger, faster, more powerful and less likely to injure while playing.
The other and (in my opinion) more important reason we offer CrossFit Kids classes and our Varsity training, is to build a healthy relationship with physical activity. Many of us lost interest in training in a gym once we no longer played sports or performed activities that required us to be in good shape. Most of us have a broken relationship with fitness (where the gym is used as punishment for gluttonous or slothful living), and we can fix this for future generations. CrossFit is the most fun and passion-inducing way to train we've encountered, and it's a great way to teach children skills they'll retain for their lifetime.
