CrossFitter of the Month – January 2015

Hey Folks!

It’s that time again!  This month we’re excited to recognize someone who has been quietly putting in the work, who arrived with a clear goal in mind.  That goal has since been achieved and new goals have been made for this person.  While big weights and fast times are impressive to watch and fun to achieve, it’s always important to remember that “big weights” and “fast times” is always relative, and this months winner has made huge strides and continues on the path to ever increasing levels of health, performance and longevity!  We’re so proud to recognize this person and are always impressed by her resolve and consistency.  This month we recognize…

Caroline

Caroline!  Here are her answers to our questions 🙂

Name: Caroline Savarie

Age: 51

Occupation: Director, Human Resources, Ontario Public Service

What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit?

While I have always kept active by walking, downhill skiing, playing tennis, and soccer in my earlier years, I have never really had a regular exercise routine prior to joining crossfit. I experienced many failed attempts over the years in joining a gym.

Skiing

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?

I am proud to say that I am coming up to my 2 year anniversary at crossfit this February.   My friend Dianna and I were skiing at Onaping one Sunday with our boys. On the ride home I spoke about how I was having a hard time keeping up with my son on the slopes and generally feeling that I had to do something to get into better shape.  Approaching the dreaded 50 club was also a huge call to action for me.   She suggested I come out to crossfit with her and I have never looked back.   I love the variety and the structure too.

What is your favourite part about CrossFit?

The 6:00 am crossfit crew including our morning coaches! I wouldn’t still be at it if it wasn’t for them. They are always there to lend a hand, encouraging me to the last rep of a WOD. I may finish last but they always make me feel like I come in first!   Skiing is a passion of mine and I feel stronger and more confident than ever on the slopes that I can keep up to my husband and 16 year old son. It’s such a great family sport and I hope to be at it for many years to come.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)

I’m blessed to have a great husband and son and a terrific circle of family and friends.   I have always struggled with work/life balance and they help me realize that balance isn’t just found in what you do but who you surround yourself with.   Crossfit helps give me the inner strength to find that perspective. Oh, and I am also proud of being able to do handstand pushups and toes to bar – well sort of.   This is the year of the double under!

Antigua

Favorite workout or lift?

I just take each workout as it comes. I like the surprise factor of what the white board has to offer each day and praying that wall balls are NOT on it!   Our 6:00 am class sit ups are always a fun way to top it all off at the end of a WOD. The coaches are great to give me that healthy push to stretch myself further each week. It’s not always easy getting up so early but I am always glad I did by the end of the class.   I leave feeling energized and with a sense of accomplishment.

Anything else you would like to share please feel free

Thanks to all the coaches for being so supportive and encouraging. I feel lucky to be part of the 6:00 am class. You are a special group of people and you give me a great start to my day.

Thank you Caroline for being such a fantastic member and person!  You’re an inspiration 🙂
